Ex-student Sam Bates signs professional contract

Leicestershire County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Sam Bates has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Wicket-keeper Bates is a graduate from Leicestershire’s flourishing Academy and has previously played for the club’s Second XI.

A left-handed batsman, Bates made an excellent century against Northants Second XI, and also opened the batting later in the season against a Lancashire attack that included England international James Anderson.

Subject to ECB confirmation, Bates will be available for selection for tomorrow’s game against Nottinghamshire CCC, and for the rest of the 2020 season.

Upon signing his first professional contract in cricket with Leicestershire, Bates said: “It is a dream come true to sign a contract with my hometown club.

“It has been great to be able to link up the professional squad and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “Sam impressed us while on the Academy and we had big plans for him to have a summer in our Second XI, but sadly that didn’t materialise because of the pandemic.

“However it is great to be welcoming Sam into the fold and we now have three Leicester-born wicket-keepers on our staff, which is something we are all proud of.”

GCSE Results Day

It has been lovely today to see many of our Year 11 students who came into school to collect their results.  We have been able to celebrate some great individual achievements with them and are happy to share their excitement about moving on to the next stage in their lives.

This has been a very unique year for students and one that none of us envisaged when we started the academic year.  We were really looking forward to our students in Year 11 being able to complete the year and show what a fantastic and hardworking group of students they are.  We have had some great results over the last few years and were expecting the same from our Year 11 students.  After all the uncertainty that surrounded last week’s A Level grades I am pleased that these students will be given grades that we know are robust, fair and reflect the great effort shown by our Year 11 students during their time at the Brookvale Groby Learning Campus.  We are immensely proud of the grit and determination they have shown throughout this year and know they would have excelled had exams run as normal.

We want to congratulate every single one of them for what they have achieved, and I hope they can all progress to the next chapter of their lives confident in their own abilities and knowing they can make a difference.  It’s been a complete privilege to have worked with such a wonderful cohort and I wish them every success moving forward.  I know they will leave with many great memories of Brookvale Groby and we look forward to welcoming many back into Post 16 next year.

 

 

 

A Level Results Day

It has been lovely today to see many of our Post 16 students who came into school to collect their results.  We have been able to celebrate some great individual achievements with them and are happy to share their excitement about moving on to the next stage in their lives.

As a year group they have had a difficult end to their studies but have shown true resilience and maturity, we are immensely proud of what they have achieved.

As a school we have been left feeling very upset by the process put in place by the DFE which has resulted in many of our students with lower grades than those supplied by the school.  We are confident our students would have achieved the Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) that we supplied to the awarding bodies.  We will do everything within our powers to support these students in ensuring the grades they receive reflect the hard work they have shown during their time with us.

Nationally it would appear that there has been significant adjustments to CAG grades and we are not alone in our disappointment.  We will work closely with professional associations to put pressure on the DFE to ensure that awarded grades are fair and reflective of their true ability.

Year 13 have been a fantastic group of students, embodying our work hard, be kind motto.  We feel confident that they have acquired the skills necessary to be successful in their chosen pathways and we want to wish them all the very best for their future.

Pi Day!

On Friday 13th March, we celebrated Pi Day by having a Pi recital competition.
Well done to all that took part, there were some breathtaking performances!
The Pi champion this year was Ksusha Curtis in Year 10 who won it with 153 digits, winning it by just a few digits!
All participants were rewarded with Cherry or Apple pie!
