WORLD BOOK DAY

By Miss S Straw26th February 2018

It is World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. To celebrate the day there are going to be a number of competitions to participate in for the chance to win prizes.

Tutor Time Quiz

There will be a World Book Day quiz that will be completed as the tutor time quiz this week. The tutor group(s) that score the highest marks in this quiz will win a prize to share during tutor time next week.

Extreme Reading

Take a picture of yourself reading in the most extreme places. Submit your images to sstraw@brookvalegroby.com by Thursday lunchtime to be in for a chance of winning a prize. Please do not be so extreme that you are in danger – no prizes will be given for dangerous reading!

Book Cover Treasure Hunt

Around the campus on Thursday there will be 15 book covers hidden. You must make a note of which book the cover belongs to and where you found it. The first 20 students to get all 15 correct will win a prize. Answers should be brought to Miss Straw in G46 by the end of lunchtime on Thursday.

We look forward to you seeing you all partake in the World Book Day activities.

Word of the Week – Feb 26th

By Miss A Chapman25th February 2018

Calling all KS3 and KS4 students!

Word of the Week is a new weekly competition to help improve your literacy and add to your ever-growing vacbulary.

Every Monday there will be a new word for you to discover.
Posters will be up around the English department with the word, a definition and some exmaples so that you can really get to grips with how it can be applied to your own writing.

If you want the chance to win a chocolate bar and become our weekly Word Warrior, just grab a slip of paper and use the word effectively in a sentence, then drop it into the WOTW post box outside G1.

Remember to include your name.

This week’s word is:

Surreptitious
Something that is kept secret or hidden because it would not generally be approved of.

Campus recognises student excellence

By Mrs C Anderson22nd January 2018

The week beginning 15th January saw assemblies in Years 7 -11 which celebrated the success of students in the Autumn Term. The efforts and achievement of over 500 students in five different categories was recognised and the buzz in the hall / theatre each morning suggests that, while they may sometimes say otherwise, most young people appreciate seeing their good work recognised!

Students were identified in 5 different categories:

  • Most merits / reward points
  • No behaviour points
  • 100% attendance
  • Receiving grade 1’s for all subjects for Self Control with Learning on their reports
  • Achieving target grades in all subjects

As you can see the criteria are tough so it is testament to the students’ attitudes that so many are on each list.

In addition to those awards any students who had received an award in all of the final four categories were recognised for a Headteachers Award. This is a truly special achievement and yet 17 students across the school managed this feat.

Congratulations to all students who were recognised in the assemblies.

Headteachers Award Winners (12 students pictured above with both Headteachers) were:

Year 7 – Praise Owagbeyegun, Amelia Amba Patel, Jagruti Lohit, Alicia Watts
Year 8 – Tina Tang
Year 9 – Ava Morton
Year 10 – Izzy Morris, Yuvraaj Dhugga, Kush Bharakhada, Rachel Nealon
Year 11  – Rian Patel, Niamh Stretton, Jenna Batty, Haydn Olynn,  Jonathan Olynn, Jorja Purdie, Rebekah Garratt
