Brookvale Music Practice Rooms

By C Salmon12th March 2018

Due to the condition that the practice rooms were left in at the end of last week and students having to be asked multiple times to move on when using them as a place for social gathering, they will be closed at Break times and Lunch times every day this week. This does not apply to private music lessons, if you have instrumental lessons at this time, they will carry on as normal. A new timetable sheet will be produced for both weeks of the timetable and they will be opened again from next week provided that the week goes well and the music area is treated with respect.

Just to remind students, practice rooms are for music practice, not social gathering, no food or drink should be taken in, so eat break or lunch before going in and the rooms will be limited to a maximum of 3 people. Students should only be in the practice rooms or the main music classroom if they have permission or supervision, students SHOULD NOT under any circumstances wander in on their own for their own safety and to prevent equipment from being damaged.

Thank you

Mr Salmon and Miss White

Word of the Week – 5th March

By Miss A Chapman5th March 2018

The word this week is ‘Vitriolic’ – filled with bitterness and the desire to offend or hurt someone’s feelings.

See posters around the English department for example sentences.

If you want a chance to win a chocolate bar, write a sentence using the word on a slip of paper or post it note, put your name on it, and drop it into the postbox outside G1.

A winner will be announced on Friday.

WORLD BOOK DAY

By Miss S Straw26th February 2018

It is World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. To celebrate the day there are going to be a number of competitions to participate in for the chance to win prizes.

Tutor Time Quiz

There will be a World Book Day quiz that will be completed as the tutor time quiz this week. The tutor group(s) that score the highest marks in this quiz will win a prize to share during tutor time next week.

Extreme Reading

Take a picture of yourself reading in the most extreme places. Submit your images to sstraw@brookvalegroby.com by Thursday lunchtime to be in for a chance of winning a prize. Please do not be so extreme that you are in danger – no prizes will be given for dangerous reading!

Book Cover Treasure Hunt

Around the campus on Thursday there will be 15 book covers hidden. You must make a note of which book the cover belongs to and where you found it. The first 20 students to get all 15 correct will win a prize. Answers should be brought to Miss Straw in G46 by the end of lunchtime on Thursday.

We look forward to you seeing you all partake in the World Book Day activities.

Word of the Week – Feb 26th

By Miss A Chapman25th February 2018

Calling all KS3 and KS4 students!

Word of the Week is a new weekly competition to help improve your literacy and add to your ever-growing vacbulary.

Every Monday there will be a new word for you to discover.
Posters will be up around the English department with the word, a definition and some exmaples so that you can really get to grips with how it can be applied to your own writing.

If you want the chance to win a chocolate bar and become our weekly Word Warrior, just grab a slip of paper and use the word effectively in a sentence, then drop it into the WOTW post box outside G1.

Remember to include your name.

This week’s word is:

Surreptitious
Something that is kept secret or hidden because it would not generally be approved of.

Shale and old tennis courts re opened

By Mr G Godwin18th January 2018

From now students in all years will once again have access to the shale pitch at lunchtime and the old tennis courts at Groby at break and lunchtime following the completion of work by our grounds staff.

A reminder that the shale area is only open to those who want additional space for ball games and that you will be asked to finish your games just before the bell so that you are not late into school.
