KS3 Writing Competition for years 7, 8 and 9

By Miss A Chapman11th April 2018

On April 2nd 1805, Hans Christian Anderson was born. He went on to write some of the best known and loved fairy tales; stories that are still told today. He is arguably most famous for The Little Mermaid.

To celebrate his life and work the English department is holding a creative writing competition.

Write a fairy tale no longer than two sides of A4.

You could take an existing fairy tale and twist it around, bring it into the 21st century, or create brand new fairy tale all your own.

Entries should be submitted to Ms Norton in the Brookvale Library.

Deadline for entries is Friday 4th May.

The competition will be judged by the English, Media and Literacy department and a prize linked to the anniversary will be awarded to the winner.

Good luck!

Groby and Brookvale Music Practice Rooms

By C Salmon21st March 2018

Due to the condition that practice rooms and the equipment have been left in recently, the practice rooms at both Groby and Brookvale will be locked and unavailable for use until after the Easter holidays, without exception. This does not apply to private music lessons, if you have instrumental lessons at this time, they will carry on as normal. New rules will be made over Easter to ensure the music areas are used appropriately. We have had to lock the Music practice rooms and the store cupboards between lessons as there have been many incidents recently where students have abused the space or the equipment.

Just to remind students, practice rooms are for music practice, not social gathering. No food or drink should be taken in, if you have food or drink, please finish it before going in. The rooms will be limited to a maximum of 3 people. Students should only be in the practice rooms or the main music classrooms on both sites if they have permission or supervision, students SHOULD NOT under any circumstances wander in on their own for their own safety and to prevent equipment from being damaged.

We want to make the practice space available for students to use and enjoy, but this is not possible when students misuse the space and equipment made available, please respect them and they will be made available once more.

Thank you

Mr Salmon and Miss White
