On Monday 22nd January 40 Year 11 students visited the GCSE Poetry Live Show hosted at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. 7 poets appeared on stage as part of this inspiring day for our students.

The week beginning 15th January saw assemblies in Years 7 -11 which celebrated the success of students in the Autumn Term. The efforts and achievement of over 500 students in five different categories was recognised and the buzz in the hall / theatre each morning suggests that, while they may sometimes say otherwise, most young people appreciate seeing their good work recognised!

As you can see the criteria are tough so it is testament to the students’ attitudes that so many are on each list.
In addition to those awards any students who had received an award in all of the final four categories were recognised for a Headteachers Award. This is a truly special achievement and yet 17 students across the school managed this feat.
Congratulations to all students who were recognised in the assemblies.

On Monday 15 January, we had Teacher Training after school.
Some of our fabulous students were ‘Google Champions’ and helped in these sessions.
On Tuesday 9th January 35 or our Key Stage 3 students attended the Young Voices Children’s Choir at the Genting Arena, Birmingham. They sang alongside 6,521 other school children, a 7-piece live band, some of the UK’s leading musicians, backing singers and internationally acclaimed conductor David Lawrence. Over 150,000 children will take part over several concert dates. Well done to all our students who performed! Miss White, Head of Music.
We’re delighted to announce the winners of our Christmas card competition, which we opened up to all students across the campus.
Yet again the BGLC Christmas Concert was a wonderful celebration of student musical talent across the age range 11-19. We were treated to vocal and instrumental solos, a wind and brass ensemble, a string group, a Young Voices choir and a campus choral group.
Thank you to our Music teachers Miss White and Mr Salmon and our fantastic team of peripatetic staff.

Over the last 2 days we have hosted our Christmas dinner days – below are some photos from today’s dinner sitting in the Brookvale dining hall.
‘Top of the Bench’ is a national competition run by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Teams of 4 are invited to take part but must consist of 2 Year 9 students, 1 Year 10 student and 1 Year 11 student. 12 schools took part in the local heat.
Well done to our ‘Top of the Bench Team’ who won the Leicestershire heat on Wednesday 13th December!
Our team now progresses to the regional final to be held at Derby University in January.

A big thank you from Miss Chapman to all of her tutees in 10ACH.
A special mention of thanks also goes to Neve Peel, a Year 8 student for going out of her way to ensure the donation box got off to a good start. A very conscientious and caring student – one we should be proud of.
Throughout November members of 10ACH brought in food, toiletries, and even some clothing, to contribute towards the Action Homeless donation drive at Phoenix cinema last Friday.
Phoenix’s Education Officer wanted to thank those who contributed and say that it is great to see young people engaged in something that aims to help less fortunate members of our society.
The donation drive was a huge success, meaning people in shelters all over Leicester will benefit from your generosity this winter.
