3M Young Innovators Challenge

By Mrs C Anderson21st June 2018

The three teams that were part of the final for the 3M Young Innovators Challenge have had their presentation evening on Friday 15th June at Loughborough College with Nicky Morgan, Loughborough MP presenting the awards.

The pupils, ranging from Year 7-10, had worked extremely hard to dominate the challenge’s final lineup.

We are pleased to announce that the Space-Tech team, comprising Amber King (Year 10), Ewan Pantling (Year 10), Jess Penlington (Year 9) and Jack Mosley (Year 9) were the overall winners!

They each won ÂŁ50 worth of vouchers and ÂŁ750 of vouchers for school to spend on other STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) activities!

The other two teams were also highly commended for their exceptional work and bagged themselves ÂŁ25 of vouchers each.

Congratulations to Team Lightbringers (Poppy Maynard-Smith of Year 9 and Katie Carvin and Charlotte Penlington – both of Year 7) and Big Ben Bosses (Amelie Golesworthy and Ethan Pantling of Year 10 and Isaac Mwenya and Abbie Palmer of Year 7) for achieving such excellent results!

The competition has been really exciting to be part of this year and our three teams have developed a close, but friendly, rivalry (thanks in no small part to the number of siblings across the teams!)

We now look forward to the chance to defend our trophy in 2019!

‘We are all stars’

By Mrs C Anderson21st June 2018

Students in KS3 (and some from KS4) were asked to produce a small star artwork that could be decorated in any way they choose using any art medium. Just under 400 stars have been submitted and they all form part of this amazing collage pictured below!  We love the variety of ideas and approaches seen in each small but significant square and we would like to thank each and every student for taking part.  Each student has played a small but vital part in making something great – a bit like in our school really!

Year 8 Careers Morning – Wednesday 20th June 2018

By Mrs C Anderson20th June 2018

This morning 240 Year 8 students have been taking part in a ‘Careers Information’ activity.  During lesson 1 and 2 students met with and interviewed a number of different careers volunteers in a “What’s my line?” style format.

Students had to use their questioning skills to work out what each volunteer’s job role was and then had the chance to learn more about that particular career.

The volunteers, from LEBC and STEM were impressed with our students’ behaviour and participation.

KS3 Cricket tournament

By Mrs C Anderson23rd May 2018

Our KS3 Cricket team enjoyed a great afternoon in the sun on Monday in the Hinckley and Bosworth area tournament hosted at Dixie Grammar.

Unfortunately, the boys came up short in their two games against Market Bosworth and hosts Dixie.  Our second match, against Dixie, was extremely close after a great batting performance from Avraj Lalh and Devonte Khan set them a challenging total, which they chased down with just 2 balls to spare.  Another highlight was Kieran Tillson taking 3 wickets in one over against a strong Market Bosworth batting line up.

Well done to all the boys involved!
