Mackenzie Smith, Year 9 student at Brookvale Groby, plays for Leicester City Women’s U15’s as well as for Desford Boys U14’s on a Sunday. During January this year Mackenzie was appraised by an England FA scout whilst playing in the midfield for Leicester City Woman’s U15’s Development team. He considered her to have elite international potential and was invited to a weekend FA Midlands regional camp over Easter at Lilleshall, and subsequently selected for three day National Performance Camps at Warwick University in August and October this year.
Speaking to LCWFC, Mackenzie Smith said: “It was a fabulous surprise to be selected, I’m really excited. The girls are all great players, so it encourages everyone to step up and do their best. I enjoy just training and learning at the England camps. I’m looking forward to the new challenge.”
“I love playing for Leicester City Women’s Development Centre on a Saturday and for Desford Boys on a Sunday. It’s helped me develop different skill sets. My teams are both top class and the coaching staff are all highly qualified.”
Leicester City Women Under-15’s Manager, Holly Morgan said: “Mackenzie is truly deserving of her selection into the next National Performance Camp. With an abundance of talent and an unwavering attitude to learn and develop, I have no doubt that Mack will excel at this level.”
“All at Leicester City Women are extremely proud of her.”
She has just attended an individual development weekend at Nottingham Trent University and is set for another National Performance Camp at Warwick in December.
Currently at 13 years of age, Mackenzie will be eligible in 2019 for selection to the England U15’s National Team, and will continue striving to represent them at international level.
WELL DONE MACKENZIE – BROOKVALE GROBY ARE REALLY PROUD OF YOU!
