Alyssa America Trip
Huge congratulations to our AMAZING Year 11 student, Alyssa Tapley, who was invited to speak at the 2025 Breakthrough Prize ceremony in Santa Monica, California, where she shared her personal story before David Liu received the prestigious Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences. At just 13 years old, Alyssa was diagnosed with aggressive T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and was given a terminal prognosis. However, after participating in a clinical trial at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, her condition improved dramatically, leading to complete remission. Now 16, Alyssa credits Liu’s innovation with giving her a future she once thought impossible. Her emotional testimony underscored the profound impact of Liu’s work on real lives, emphasizing that breakthroughs in science can indeed save lives.

Hosted by James Corden, the gala featured appearances by celebrities such as Jodie Foster and Lily Collins, who presented Liu with his award. The evening highlighted the convergence of scientific achievement and public recognition, emphasizing the importance of breakthroughs that transcend the laboratory to touch lives worldwide.
From all of the staff and students here @BrookvaleGrobyLearningCampus, we are so very proud of you Alyssa! – YOU ARE A TRULY AMAZING YOUNG LADY!
